Wooden Box with Brass Hardware

 

This Walnut and brass box was designed to hold wedding envelopes and some small gifts. The clients had me create their wooden ketubah months prior and I was honored to follow that project up with this. The wood was milled and box constructed by Steve Hamer in Flat Rock, NC. He has a hand in many of our woodworking projects. He handed the box off to me(Eddie), and I engraved the top, installed the hardware and applied the finishing touches. The small brass handle seen in the photo above was my favorite piece to make. I created it with some of my metal working tools and in a photo below you’ll see the underside has a groove to rest your finger in. The hinges are small, discreet, barrel hinges and the polished brass lid-stay is made by Brusso. The box itself is made from half inch walnut and most of the joinery is finger or box joints. The top panel is quarter sawn and the engraving includes a thistle as well as a flame along side the quote “let me be a seal upon your heart, for love is fierce as death”.
