Eddie Aaronson

Artist & Designer

Windthrow is the name I’ve given to my creative side. I immensely enjoy creating functional art, and Judaica has been a wonderful avenue to explore and hone my craft. With over a decade of woodworking experience, my designs continue to evolve as I obtain proficiency in metalworking. I particularly love designing with walnut and brass, often incorporating typography. In all my works, I’m captivated by the process loop of sketch, design, create, refine.

I work out of my studio in North Carolina. My partner, Becca, and I run the business together. We collaborate with local artisans to craft our pieces. We donate a portion of our profits to Dogwood Alliance, an organization protecting Southeastern forests.

  • Eddie has been creating art in Asheville North Carolina for the past decade. He currently practices wood & brass work, wood engraving, etching, watercolor, pen & ink, and calligraphy.

Shortly after graduating from Kutztown University (Pennsylvania) with a degree in Communication Design, Eddie moved to Asheville and founded Windthrow in 2013. Over the last decade, woodworking has been his primary focus; he learned invaluable skills as a craftsman from Brian Boggs Chairmakers.

“It was at that job that I studied how a master designs with wood. I learned how to sharpen the most incredible hand tools and use them proficiently. I befriended huge, pre-war machines, and had them complete complex tasks with extreme accuracy.” Learn more about his woodworking career.

Eddie has also explored other forms of artistry over the years, such as etching, watercolor, pen & ink, and calligraphy by way of Jewish marriage certificates, Ketubot.

Eddie lives in West Asheville, North Carolina with Becca and their pup, Kai. He enjoys spending personal time in the shop, creating one-of-a-kind pieces for their home. In addition to art, Eddie is passionate about nature. He spends his falls and springs planting native trees & plants. He also sets plenty of time aside to find swimming holes and moss covered forests with Becca and Kai.

Becca B. Aaronson

Operations

Becca runs Windthrow’s administration. She also designs Windthrow’s website and works with couples on their ketubah, inlaying their unique text into the design.

  • Becca is originally from New Orleans, where she enjoys returning to visit family. She has lived in Asheville since 2016 and has completely fallen in love with the town and Western North Carolina.

Growing up, she spent her summers in the Blue Ridge Mountains paddling rivers, singing goofy songs, and developing self-initiative at Camp Green Cove. She practiced leadership and found deep appreciation for nature through attending an Alzar School program in high school.

Becca received a BA in Psychology with a minor in Business and Spanish at the University of South Carolina. Before joining Windthrow, Becca worked at St. Gerard House, a non-profit Autism Center in Hendersonville, for over 3 years, where she served as Director of Quality Assurance and gained expertise in data analysis and systems management.

Becca is passionate about protecting forests and taking climate action. She supports incredible organizations such as Dogwood Alliance and Asheville Greenworks. In addition, she takes on personal projects, such as removing English Ivy, an invasive species, from forests, and planting native trees & plants. You will also find her playing piano, practicing Spanish, and taking breathtaking swims in mountain water with Eddie and Kai.
