Carving a Dry Scoop
I carved a small scoop recently out of cherry wood. Every time I carve a spoon I wonder why I don’t make one every day, then I remember it takes me roughly six hours to carve and sand a spoon. Also, my forearms are usually shot the next day from gripping so tightly. Regardless, it’s in my top five favorite things to do.
At this point I had carved the bowl with my hook knife and sculpted the form with the band saw. I sketched out a wing and considered making this a duck spoon… I didn’t, but I did add a fun feature to have it stand a certain way.
