Calligraphy is made up of thick and thin lines

To engrave into wood, I first write out the names with pencil, then use a ‘V’ gouge to carve out the thicker parts of each letter. Next, I’ll use my pyrography (wood burning) pen to burn the insides of those thick letters and create the thin lines with a red hot tip on my sharpest pen. Afterwards, I sand the board to reveal the crisp lines. Once the board is oiled with beeswax, it is ready for Shabbat and a beautiful loaf of braided bread.
